The Route: Starting at One of Cedar Rapid's landmark watering holes.

The New Shack Tavern

New Shack Tavern 2545 Old River Rd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA back to C Street and enter the Cedar Rapids Bike trail at Tait Cummings Park.

Turn right on the trail and follow the trail up to Ely Road (W6E) and enter the highway right going towards Ely.Follow Ely Road (W6E) into Ely and going past Ely Staying on (W6E) until you come to 140th St NE (F12).

Turn right on 140th St NE (F12) .Keep going on (F12) staying on it.You will come to a stop HWY 1.Keep going forward. (F12) will turn into(F14) just keep following the highway until you see the signs we have posted to turn to the Sutliff Bridge.18.4 miles one way

Thanks to the great guys at North Woods Guys blog site for posting our bike ride on their site.

Included a Karen Carpenter video today, first of all because I love her, lol, and second this song and its words can apply to so many different relationships and things that go on in our world today.

Hope everyone's week is going well. Been kind of a down week for me, I have been reading alot of blogs lately (http://towleroad.typepad.com/ is a good one) and there is just so much hate and bigotry out there in the world, just amazes me that in today's world that hate, and all it brings with it, rises above so many other more important and valuable things.

My daughter started high school this week and I was so happy to see her thrilled about this stage in her life, but I was also kind of sad knowing there is so much out there she has to deal with because her dad is gay. I just hope my life doesn't cause her to much grief and pain for truely I could not bare that. Wow sorry got on a melancholy path there, ok moving on.

I got into a very interesting conversation with a person yesterday, she comes from a evanglical background and we discussed religion, God, and just about everything in between. It was nice to talk to someone about those things and not feel I was getting my one way ticket to hell stamped. It was refreshing and I needed that. Hence I found this pic and included it, just makes me feel good seeing it.

Tom and I discussed times for the ride and we decided on meeting at the Shack Tavern at around 10 that day and trying to leave for Sutliff by 10 30 or so. That would allow riders of all paces to get there for lunch. The route and other info is also here on the blog. The GLRC will have a water/snack stop at the halfway point between Cedar Rapids and Sutliff, so everyone really doesnt have to be in the bike saddle for any prolonged amout of time, and trust me that is a good thing lol. Thanks to a great many people that have emailed us back and said they were sending the link to this blog along on their own information superhighway contacts. That is really nice of you all.

Tom and I have been hashing over the complete route and times and should have that to post in next couple of days. For part of the route we will be able to utilize the bike trail here in Cedar Rapids and that is a very nice trail for those of you that haven't used it before.

BUILDING BRIDGES RIDE

Hey everyone, thanks for checking out the blog. This blog was created to promote the First Annual Building Bridges Bike Ride. This ride is to help promote understanding, goodwill and friendship between the gay and straight worlds. Hence the building bridges part lol

The BBR will take place on Sunday Sept 17th. The ride will take place between Cedar Rapids and Sutliff, Iowa. For those of you that don't know about the historic town of Sutliff here is a link to the town. http://www.sutliffbridge.com/main/ Isn't that cool that we found a route with a bridge? lol The ride is really pretty and not horribly challenging, so riders of all types can handle it very easily, you dont have to be a superhero to do it.

Please feel free to invite anyone you would like and come out and enjoy a nice fall day and some good times.

This blog will update more info in the coming days concerning the ride, as in what time this all starts and more on the route. A map should be coming very soon. You can reach either
